MANIPUR: STATE OBSERVES ANTI-TERRORISM DAYanti terrorism day

As observed throughout the country, the State Government of Manipur today observed the Anti-Terrorism Day marking the death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi at 1st Manipur Rifles Banquet Hall, Imphal.

The observance was attended by Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister Shri V. Hangkhanlian as Chief Guest and Education, Labour & Employment Minister, Shri Th. Radheshyam as President.

Speaking at the observance, as the Chief Guest Shri V. Hangkhanlian, Minister, Agriculture, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, said that all over India May 21st is observed as Anti Terrorism Day in the memory of former Indian Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi who was assassinated by a female suicide bomber at Sriperumbudur, in Tamil Nadu State in 1991. The violent incident that was strongly condemned in the country and the world as a whole is being remembered and observed all over the Country as Anti Terrorism Day.

Asserting that brutal activities and designs of terrorism were against the right to freedom of life, the Minister said that terrorism cause heavy lost to precious lives, huge damage to government and private properties, give tension, broke the relationship among countries, and becomes hindrance for the development of economy creating disturbance to the normal peaceful lives of people.

Further, the Minister appealed to parents to guide their children in the right path and teach good ways of thought and wisdom, to love social life and people. The state administration machinaries and the people were required to remain alert and strife together to prevent and root out the brutal activities of terrorism. To develop human values and to have a peaceful social life and better society, we should have mutual understanding, he said.

Giving the Presidential speech, Shri Th. Radheshyam, Education, Labour & Employment Minister, said that terrorism is an enemy in the face of humanity and modern civilization that affected lives. The State also faces problems of terrorism and violence that creates instability. Citing former Prime Minister of India, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi as a man with great vision who signed the Punjab Accord, 1985 and Mizoram Accord, 1996, the Minister said that he had great interest and belief in settling all problems through negotiations and non violence.

He further added that we can swipe away and stop terrorism from Manipur, India and World as a whole by standing firmly against terrorism. Government Officials and staffs attended the observance and Minister V. Hangkhanlian administered Anti-terrorism/ Anti-Violence pledge to all the attendees.
