Meghalaya Police issues alert over circulation of fake news

The Meghalaya Police on Saturday issued a scam alert over a misleading message about the Meghalaya government providing financial aid to unemployed youths.

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Police on Saturday issued a scam alert over a misleading message about the Meghalaya government providing financial aid to unemployed youths.

The message stated that the state government would provide aid of Rs 5000 to all the unemployed youth in the state.

It further urged the interested ones to register and send their bank account details to their ‘Official’ Telegram group.

Taking to Twitter the Meghalaya police said, “A misleading and fake message is being circulated by some people with malafide intentions. We request citizens not to share/promote such unverified forwards.”

The police department further said that appropriate action as per law will be initiated against those found propagating false and misleading information.
