DIMAPUR: In light of the need to increase the availability of trained human resources to combat the pandemic, the Nagaland government has decided to mobilise trained human resources for the effective management of COVID-19.

In a notification, the government said the students of General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) or B.Sc. (Nursing) and allied health care professionals courses who are undergoing internship or are in the final year awaiting final exam will be given full time non-COVID essential services duties at government/ private facilities under the supervision of senior faculty.

The existing medical staff, wherever thus relieved of non-COVID essential services duties, should be deployed for COVID-19 duties, it said.

It stated that students enrolled in Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery (ANM) courses who are undertaking an internship or are in the final year of their course and are awaiting their final exam may be assigned full-time COVID vaccination nursing duties at the government or private facilities under the supervision of senior faculty.

Current medical personnel should be mobilised for COVID -19 duties wherever they have been relieved of non-COVID critical services duties.

The students of GNM or B.Sc. (Nursing), ANM, and allied health care professionals courses who are in the second year will be utilised in clinical documentation and other ancillary service but should not be given the responsibility of any clinical care and services.

According to the notification, Interns or final year medical students studying elsewhere but in the state can apply for engagement.

The health professionals thus engaged will be suitably remunerated at the rate approved by the State Government and covered under the insurance scheme of government for health workers fighting COVID-19.

All such professionals who sign up for at least minimum days of COVID duty and successfully complete it will be eligible for the Prime Minister's Distinguished Covid National Service Samman from the Government of India, as well as the benefits approved by the State Government from time to time, said the government.

Moreover, the respective hospital administrations have been directed to ensure that medical professionals seeking to work for Covid are properly vaccinated.
