Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Tuesday announced that only the second and last Saturdays of a month will be observed as government holidays for employees who have been working in various government departments.

The announcement was made following a report that some government employees were taking undue advantage of the holidays.
It may be mentioned here that, after the formation of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government in the month of May 2019, all Saturdays were declared as government holidays, wherein the government employees were enjoying two days (Sunday including) in a week as holidays.
Sikkim CM PS Tamang announced, “The State government has decided to withdraw the system of all Saturdays as holidays. Some government employees were found utilizing the facility given in form of government holidays to gain unwanted advantages. Only two Saturdays, the second and last of a month, would be holidays.”
