GANGTOK: Former Chief Minister of Sikkim Pawan Chamling turned 71 years today. Chamling was born on 22nd of September,1950 in Yangang village of South Sikkim.
Pawan Chamling, 8th term MLA, was also the former fifth term Chief Minister of Sikkim cum Sikkim Democratic Front President. He became MLA for the first time in the year 1985.
Chamling's 24.4 year stint (December 1994 to May 2019) is the longest ever by a chief minister of any Indian state.

Prior to establishing the Sikkim Democratic Front, Chamling served as Minister for Industries, Information and Public Relations from 1989 to 1992 in Nar Bahadur Bhandari's cabinet.
He formed the Sikkim Democratic Front on 4 March 1993.
