GANGTOK: The places where public gatherings take place for purposes of entertainment continue to operate across the state of Sikkim despite the government'sCOVID-19 containment measures.

Swimming pools, pubs, parlours, casinos, cinema halls, etc. continue to run despite the uptick in cases in the Himalayan state.

According to Clause 3 (i) of the state government's order no. 36 dated 16/07/2021 regarding restrictions on the movement of people and other measures, the above places shall continue to remain closed until further orders.

Sikkim's government today issuing an order that clarified that all such places where public gatherings take place for purposes of entertainment should remain closed as per the provisions.

Sikkim today reported 257 fresh cases of COVID-19 pushing the tally to 23,649.

The positivity rate of the infection in the state is 19.2%.

On the other hand, 136 patients infected with the infection have been recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 20,634 with a recovery rate of 85.2%.

Sikkim currently has 2429 active cases of COVID-19, and the death tool due to the virus stands at 324.
