The tribal bodies of Tripura have announced a series of agitations across the state with a demonstration against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act starting from January 7.
The statewide agitations will be carried out under the banner of a joint forum of three tribal political and social bodies from the state capital, Agartala. The aim is to express their disappointment over the Centre’s move to implement the CAA in Tripura.

It may be mentioned here that the bodies, under the aegis of Joint Movement Against CAA (JMACAA), had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 12, seeking exemption of Tripura from the purview of the CAA. However, the leaders of JMACAA were disappointed with the Centre’s move to go ahead with the implementation of CAA in the state despite assuring that indigenous rights would be protected.
