Will schools, colleges, church services in Nagaland be closed? Know what CM said

KOHIMA: With the second wave of COVID-19 sweeping the country, forcing schools and educational institutions to close and most states to go into lockdown, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday said that schools across the state might have to close down soon.

Although church services and other inevitable public events should be reduced to a bare minimum, with obligatory COVID acceptable behaviour implemented.

Speaking at the launching of the COVID-19 Vaccination Centre (CVC) for health care workers (HCWs) at Thizama, CM Rio urged anyone eligible to get themselves vaccinated, claiming that the vaccines used in India were safe and had a high efficacy rate.

At the same time, many that had already been vaccinated were reminded to adhere to the COVID-19 protocol and protection guidelines.

Rio said that, given the high transmission and faster spread of COVID-19 in the second wave, the mortality and transmission rates were also frightening, and that the situation could become disastrous if appropriate precautionary measures were not taken.

The chief minister also attributed the first wave's success to the collaborative efforts of civil society, the church, frontline, and health workers working in close cooperation with the government, and expressed hope that such camaraderie would be repeated in the current fight against the disease.

CM Rio also advised people not to be misled by rumours and fear-mongering about the vaccine that was circulating on various social media sites.

He said that the vaccines were produced by top scientists after extensive testing and that they were being given to the public following the requisite procedures and trials.
