Manipur electoral officer reports high voter turnout, mostly peaceful polling in first phase polls

In a detailed statement, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur, Pradeep Jha, has provided an overview of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in the state. Jha noted that polling proceeded smoothly across most of the designated polling stations, with a significant voter turnout observed. 

Initial reports suggest a polling percentage of approximately 67 per cent, although Jha anticipates this figure may increase once final reports are compiled from all districts.

While overall polling operations were peaceful, isolated incidents were reported in some districts. These incidents included instances of damage to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and reports of criminal intimidation or attempts to influence voters. Jha emphasized that the electoral authorities are actively seeking detailed reports from the concerned districts and assured that appropriate action will be taken upon receipt of these reports.

Looking ahead, Jha mentioned that preparations for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for April 26th, are already underway. 

Noteworthy, the state of Manipur witnessed few incidents of violence and allegations of malpractices by few section of the voters in the first phase of Lok Sabha Elections that kick-started today, April 19 at 7 am.
