Arunachal: Denied ticket, BJP MLA Dorjee Kharma to contest against party's candidate on NPP ticket

Dorjee Wangdi Kharma, previously an MLA of BJP, who has joined the National People's Party (NPP) plans to contest from the Kalaktang assembly constituency in west Kameng district, the same constituency where he was denied a ticket from the saffron party

This region saw significant violence in recent days after the BJP announced candidates for the upcoming Assembly election.

In an exclusive interview with India Today NE, Kharma claimed he was denied a BJP ticket. At the same time, the cousin of Chief Minister Tseten Chombay was given one despite Kharma's tireless work for the party.

Kharma had earlier won the 2019 election on a JDU ticket, defeating previous Deputy Speaker TN Thongdok, before joining the BJP to work under the leadership of CM Pema Khandu.

Kharma accused the opposition party of inciting the recent violence, but the BJP candidate denied these allegations, attributing the unrest to Kharma's ticket denial.

The BJP candidate, Tsetem Chombay, further rejected these claims, stating that the party awards tickets based on winnability.

He suggested that the violence was led by Kharma's supporters, who allegedly attacked the Superintendent of Police in West Kameng while on duty.
