Assam Lok Sabha elections 2024: Akhil Gogoi accuses BJP of blackmailing women of the state

Assam Lok Sabha elections 2024: Akhil Gogoi accuses BJP of blackmailing women of the state

In a recent development towards the Assam Lok Sabha elections of 2024, Akhil Gogoi, the leader of the Raijor Dal party, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of blackmailing women in the state.

Addressing the media, the Sivsagar MLA said, "The state government is providing Orunodoi from whose money? The money is of the state, hence the form should bear the photo of the Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar but the form should have the photo of PM Modi. The government has taken out fake forms."

Further Akhil asserted that the state government has done three things, one is fake Orunodoi forms, secondly, the state government has been blackmailing the womenfolks of the state by inviting them for BJP meetings in the name of SHGs meetings and promising RS 10,000 after clicking a photo.

Akhil Gogoi also claimed that in the Assam Legislative Assembly, it was decided that every female who has a ration card will be provided with the Orunodoi scheme then where is the question of voting only for BJP, he added.

Thirdly, Gogoi pointed out that the Election Commission of India has asked the SHGs to take the oath to cast their votes in an awareness programme, however, many BJP workers have allegedly asked the SHGs to take the oath to vote for the BJP party in the upcoming LS polls.

"Himanta Biswa Sarma you have been doing major unconstitutional things in the state in the run-up to the election and for saying this if you want to put me behind bars you can or even encounter," Gogoi added.

Akhil Gogoi, at a press conference in Sivasagar, made a statement against Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, suggesting taking action against him if needed.

He urged people to vote for opposition unity candidates as, according to him, BJP may turn the country into a religious fundamentalist country.

He criticised the Modi government for selling all the country's assets, including ONGC oilfields, leading to reduced employment. He commented on the increased commodity prices affecting the common man and equated BJP with price rise, fundamentalism, and privatisation.

He called for votes for Gaurav Gogoi and Lurinjyoti Gogoi for the protection of the country and the nation. He criticised Tapan Gogoi's performance in the Lok Sabha due to his lack of language and subject matter knowledge.

Akhil Gogoi shared his works in Sivasagar, including the construction of 21 Model Anganwadi Centres, a paddy procurement centre, and plans for a ground house project.

He denied the chief minister's claim of Sivasagar people's regret over his victory.

The BJP has yet to respond to these accusations.
