Earlier in March, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 31 speaking on family planning within the Muslim community said that most young individuals in Assam's Muslim populace align with his stance against excessive childbirth for the well-being of mothers.

Sarma stated the significance of considering a woman's physical health when deciding the number of children to bear. "Our ladies should give birth to children up to their body's capacity," he said. "One should not exceed the body's capacity." The Chief Minister said that his intention was to bring about positive change within the Muslim society, particularly concerning family planning, where he claims to have garnered substantial support, notably from the youth and student communities.

Sarma further stated the backing he has received from Muslim youth, noting their vocal support on platforms such as YouTube. "Many Muslim youth are also supporting this on YouTube," he said. "They have welcomed my words; no one has objected."
