Assam Lok Sabha elections 2024: Himanta Biswa Sarma takes jibe at Congress for distributing lungis, dhotis

As the second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha general elections was held on April 26, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already begun eyeing and campaigning for the third and final phase, which will be held on May 7.

Launching a scathing attack on Congress, the Assam CM claimed that Congress did not bring any development to the state for 15 years but instead distributed only dhotis and lungis throughout.

He said, “We promised on ending these and bringing real change through Orunodoi”, further explaining that the scheme provides financial assistance directly into the bank accounts of people.

Asserting the efficiency of the scheme, Sarma added, “Today, over 30 lakh women in Assam receive Rs 1250 on the 10th of every month.”

47 candidates will be in the competition for four Lok Sabha constituencies that will go to the polls on May 7. It may be mentioned that the highest number of 14 candidates will contest from Barpeta, 13 from Dhubri, 12 from Kokrajhar and eight will contest in Guwahati.
