Assam Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Minister Pijush Hazarika confident of BJP winning Jorhat seat by 2.5 lakh votes

Assam Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Minister Pijush Hazarika confident of BJP winning Jorhat seat by 2.5 lakh votes

Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika expressed confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) victory in the Jorhat constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, asserting a winning margin of 2.5 lakh votes.

Addressing reporters in Sivasagar, Hazarika stated, "Topon Kumar Gogoi will surely win by a margin of 2.5 lakh votes." He elaborated on the evolving projections, initially estimating a winning margin of 1.5 lakh votes, which later increased to 2 lakh votes as campaigning commenced.

However, with the election fervor intensifying, Hazarika emphasized the growing confidence in a 2.5 lakh vote margin. He highlighted the stark difference in attendance between BJP and Congress gatherings, citing larger turnouts at BJP panchayat level meetings compared to Congress gatherings.

Hazarika attributed this trend to public awareness of the ground realities, asserting BJP's assured victory in the constituency.

Regarding Akhil Gogoi's Raijor Dal merger with Lurinjyoti Gogoi's Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Hazarika expressed gratitude to Gogoi for acknowledging Prime Minister Modi's continued leadership and Sarbananda Sonowal's role as Union Minister.

In the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, Assam braces itself for a dynamic political showdown as 35 candidates gear up to contest across five parliamentary constituencies in the state's first phase of polling on April 19.

According to a press statement issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), the electoral landscape witnesses a last-minute withdrawal in the Jorhat parliamentary constituency, reducing the initial count of contenders to 35.

Breaking down the numbers, Kaziranga emerges as the most contested seat with 11 candidates vying for victory, followed by Sonitpur with 8 contenders, Lakhimpur with 9, Dibrugarh with 3, and Jorhat with 4 hopefuls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asserts its presence by fielding candidates in all five constituencies, while the Indian National Congress makes its mark in four, additionally backing Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi in Dibrugarh.

Notable candidates include Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Dibrugarh, Pradan Baruah in Lakhimpur, and Gaurav Gogoi representing Congress in Jorhat.
