BJP will run BTR by remote control, win 18 seats: Assam minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass

Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Tuesday declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to secure 18 seats in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), asserting that the party will continue to control the council through “remote control.”

Addressing an election campaign meeting at Mathanguri in Baksa district in support of BJP candidate Gautam Das, the minister pressed upon voters to remain united behind the party. Using a striking metaphor, he said, “Just as watering the roots is necessary for a tree’s survival and not the branches, votes too must go directly to the BJP.”

Dass predicted a clean sweep in Baksa district, saying BJP would capture all five constituencies. Recalling the support the party had received earlier, he noted, “Last year too, we secured votes in Muslim-dominated regions, which is why we have come again this time. Compared to the past, more Muslim people will vote for BJP now.”

Reiterating his forecast, Dass added, “Whatever I have said earlier has always matched the results. This time also, I have said we will win 18 seats—and we will. With those seats, BJP will become the big brother in the new government and run the BTR by remote control.”

Turning his criticism towards rivals, the minister pointed out that the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is no longer in government, while United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) chief Pramod Boro is part of the ruling set-up. “Naturally, their words will differ according to their positions,” he said.

He also took a jibe at former BPF supremo Hagrama Mohilary, remarking, “If Hagrama could not drive the vehicle in five years, how can he expect to drive it now?”

Dass’s remarks have sharpened the political atmosphere in the BTR, where BJP is aiming to strengthen its hold and emerge as the decisive force in the upcoming council polls.
