Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 17 said that the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, scheduled for September 22, will be closely contested with all parties making strong efforts, including the BJP.
Speaking to reporters, Sarma admitted that the BJP on its own may not be in a position to form the council government. “I don’t think in BTC, BJP alone can form a government. However, from the BJP’s side, we want to take both Hagrama Mohilary of the BPF and Pramod Boro of the UPPL together for the welfare of the BTC region,” he said.

The Chief Minister underlined that both BPF and UPPL are part of the NDA alliance. “If you see, Hagrama Mohilary is also part of NDA like UPPL. So after the election, with everyone’s cooperation, the government will be formed,” Sarma added.
Sarma further expressed confidence that the BJP will emerge as the single largest party. “What I can see is that BJP will get maximum seats, but BTAD is different from Dispur, hence we have to think and proceed,” he remarked, stressing the need for consensus-driven governance in the region.
