Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Assam Jatiyo Parishad campaigns for Lurinjyoti Gogoi in remote Margherita constituency

With just a few days remaining until the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, political parties are actively engaged in campaigning for their respective candidates. However, in a stark contrast, a remote village falling under the 83rd Margherita Constituency of Tinsukia district has been overlooked by political parties, prompting Assam Jatiyo Parishad to organize an election campaign there on Saturday evening.

Located in Kuhiabari of Ledo colliery gaon panchayat, this village faces significant communication challenges, making it inaccessible to most political entities.

During the campaign event on Saturday evening, key figures from Assam Jatiyo Parishad, including Central Committee Secretary Sanjay Kumar Deb, Central Executive Member Udipto Narayan Raja, Jatiyo Yuba Shakti Central Committee Secretary Barun Kumar Das, Jatiyo Yuba Shakti Nagaon District Committee President Rahul Jyoti Bora, Margherita Mahila Congress Committee member Binita Hore, and other leaders of the United opposition forum, rallied in support of Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

Udipta Narayan Raja, a member of Assam Jatiyo Parishad, stated, "we are currently in Kuhiabari, Ledo colliery gaon panchayat within the 83rd Margherita Constituency. Upon arriving here for the campaign of our candidate Lurinjyoti, we observed that the residents are visibly distressed. They express frustration towards the BJP, as for the past 20 years, they have faced neglect in various aspects, particularly concerning road infrastructure and the construction of a bridge. Despite promises made during the 2016 and 2021 elections to address these issues, the BJP has failed to take any meaningful action. Consequently, the villagers are extremely discontented, and they have pledged to vote overwhelmingly for Lurinjyoti this year, with an estimated 90% of the vote."

Sanjay Kumar Deb highlighted the dire state of infrastructure in Kuhiabari gaon, emphasizing the absence of roads, safe drinking water supply, public health centers, and proper drainage systems. He also pointed out the perilous condition of a makeshift bamboo bridge that residents must traverse to access neighboring areas.
Local residents echoed these sentiments, expressing disappointment over the lack of basic facilities despite 77 years of independence. They lamented the adverse impact on agriculture, as the majority of villagers rely on cultivation for their livelihoods.

One resident of Kuhiabari gaon asserted, "But this time we shall give a befitting reply to Bharatiya Janata Party," underscoring the community's determination to address their long-standing grievances through the electoral process.
