Assam: Film hoardings obstructing traffic signal in Guwahati, public safety compromised

While attempts to upgrade the city of Guwahati to a smart city is going on in full throttle, several illegal hoardings, movie promotion posters, film hoardings, have become an eyesore for the residents and daily commuters. Amid this, film hoardings obstructing traffic signal has led to a chaotic traffic situation in the city, which has further led to the compromise of public safety.

A film hoarding put up at against a beam under Ganeshguri flyover, right before reaching BK Tower, is visibly obstructing a traffic signal, thus creating commotion among commuters during peak hours.

Vehicles coming from either side are unable to see the traffic signal and thus moving at the cost of their safety. The risk factor increases in such situation, but it seems authorities are less concerned with the setting up of such hoardings and posters.

While attempting to reach out to DCP (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Borah said, “We are looking into it”.
Most of the time these hoardings are frequently placed without the necessary permissions from local authorities that can obstruct traffic and cause accidents.

Most of the time, regular inspections to ensure that all hoardings are in compliance with the rules are not conducted, thus causing traffic issue in the city.
