New Delhi, January 31, 2020:

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the Novel Coronavirus as a public health emergency of international concern.

The WHO declaration served as a notice to all the United Nations member states that it views the Coronavirus outbreak as “serious”.

The declaration came after the second meeting of the Emergency Committee convened by the WHO Director General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus under the International Health Regulations (IHR) (2005) regarding the outbreak of novel coronavirus 2019 in the People’s Republic of China, with exportations to other countries.

According to Ministry of Health, the announcement of the world’s top health advisory body came after considering the fact that Coronavirus has spread to the other countries neighboring China. The virus has spread to as many as 21 countries, including India.

The first case of Coronavirus has been reported in Kerala. A student studying in Wuhan University, China has been tested positive. In China, the death toll due to Corona has increased to 170 and new cases are also on the rise.
