Pakistan begging while India aiming to become superpower, says JUI-F chief

Pakistani Opposition Leader and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that Pakistan is begging to avoid bankruptcy while India is aiming to become a superpower.

Giving his inaugural speech on the floor of the National Assembly after the 2024 polls, Rehman told the Pakistani Parliament that India and Pakistan had achieved independence on the same day, however India is headed towards becoming a superpower and Pakistan is begging to avoid bankruptcy. Comparing both countries, the opposition leader termed it as a coincidence.

He said, “India and Pakistan got independence together, in Delhi, on August 1947. Today, India is dreaming of becoming a global superpower but we are begging to avoid bankruptcy and saving from getting defaulted. Who is responsible for this?”

The JUI-F chief also called out the “powers behind the walls controlling Pakistan”. He said that the decisions are made by those powers, while citizens just oblige like puppets. Rehman was raising his doubt over the recently held parliamentary elections in the country and its legitimacy. He questioned, “What kind of election is this? Losers are not satisfied but winners are upset.”

Meanwhile, he also asked Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif to sit in the opposition benches and let the PTI govern.

Pakistan is currently in the midst of a severe financial crisis. Just recently, the International Monetary Fund approved the immediate release of $1.1 billion tranche of a $3 billion bailout to Pakistan given the worst economic crises in its history.
