The India-China border tensions have always been a matter of contingency for both countries. However, in recent months this has intensified in Sikkim and especially in Ladakh. As such upsetting reports have come out from Galwan Valley.
On an official statement, the MEA stated - "on late evening and night of June 15, a violent face-off happened as a result of an attempt by the Chinese side to unilaterally change status quo there. Both sides suffered casualties that could have been avoided had an agreement at a higher level been scrupulously followed by the Chinese side".
The Chinese side in return has taken out a press release which also confirms casualty on both sides. However, their other claims are yet to be verified from the Indian side.
As per the initial official statement, 2 soldiers and 1 officer have lost their lives during the de-escalation process in Galwan Valley. This has created a huge uproar among the concern citizens amid talks of Chinese aggression.
To take stock of the concerns, senior military officials of the two sides are currently meeting at the venue to defuse the situation in Galwan Valley.
As per reports, the officer was an Indian army colonel. As per few sources, there might be casualties on both sides. No records of bullets fired as the clash was with stones and clubs which injured several. Further details are awaited.

Following such a huge standoff has brought to concern the geographical proximity of Ladakh and the entire NE region. As per local sources, security forces are on high alert in Arunachal Pradesh.
During the Doklam standoff, the concerns of the importance of Siliguri corridor which connects the Northeast side of India to the rest of the country comes into play. Recently, tensions were also seen in the North of Sikkim. During the Chinese aggression in 1962, Northeast suffered a great many problems during the tussle with China impacting Assam and Arunachal. Also, geopolitical China claims Arunachal to be a part of their land.
As such, India must taken into account the Northeast account when it comes to also discussion diplomatic issues to de-stress the standoff.
