The flying squads of the Election Commission, Assam police and Static Surveillance Teams (SST) have seized Rs 53 lakh in cash and liquor worth Rs 3.93 crore from various parts of the state in the last 48 hours.

&nbsp;

In the last 10 days, the flying squads, Assam police and Static Surveillance Teams have seized Rs 3.25 crore in cash from various parts of the state. Moreover, these teams have seized huge quantities of liquor worth Rs 5.04 crore.

On 7 and 8 March, the flying squads and Assam police seized 17106 litres of liquor from various parts of Assam. The Excise department alone seized 28541 litres of liquor from various parts of the state on March 7. The flying squads also seized contraband worth 65 lakhs on March 7 from across the state. On March 8, the flying squads seized Rs 19 lakh in cash and 19829 litres of liquor. Moreover, the Excise department of Assam seized 41690 litres of liquor worth over Rs 3.51 crore.

In addition, 23 cases regarding violation of MCC have been reported in several districts of the poll-bound state till March 6.

It may be mentioned that the Election Commission has kept a strong vigil upon any complaint of a violation of the Model Code of Conduct and keeping close vigil against any suspicious movement of cash, valuables, liquor, contraband etc in the state.

Cash and liquor in huge quantity seized in Assam

The 9 Rajputana Rifles regiment of Army apprehended a suspected cadre of the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in Tingkhong in Dibrugarh in Assam. The cadre was apprehended on May 28th, 2020.The troops recovered a pistol and two Improvised Explosive Devises (IED) from the possession of the cadre. Later, the IEDs were diffused by the bomb squad at the Polo ground field.ON May 25th, 2020, the troops of the Indian Army in a joint operation with Assam police busted a recruitment racket of banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). During the operation the teams apprehended one hardcore cadre and four over ground workers belonging to the proscribed group.The apprehended persons have been identified as SS Pvt Baldev Teli, a ULFA(I) cadre and Amit Bara, Sumit Baig, Azad Gohran and Vijay all OGWs. The apprehended persons were allegedly involved in a recruitment racket in the region. The rescued minor has been handed over to his parents in the presence of villagers after counseling.The teams also recovered one 7.62 mm Pistol, 2 rounds of ammunition, mobile phones and SIM cards.The parents appreciated the efforts of security forces and also expressed their gratitude for the compassion in the safe return of their ward. In an incident, a youth, who went on hunting with his friend to a hilltop near Khomabari village along the Assam Arunachal Pradesh border, was killed in accidental firing on June 16th, 2020.Investigation revealed that the 25-year-old Binod Rajgarh and Biswajit Daimary alias Somaina (18) of the same village went for hunting on that day with two hand-made rifles provided by Kamal Basumatary (38) of Khomabari village in Assam. At the place of occurrence, Binod sustained bullet injury from an accidental fire of Biswajit and died. Biswajit concealed one rifle about 200 metres from the place of occurrence on the hilltop. Assam: Hunting goes wrong, accidental fire kills one

Odd-even system for movement of vehicles will be implemented under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 in all areas within Kohima, Nagaland municipality for public safety and to minimize non-essential movement of vehicles.The system will come into force from June 22 to June 30 except on June 28 (Sunday), Kohima senior superintendent of police Kevithutho Sophie said in a release on Friday.On odd dated day, the vehicles with registration number ending with odd numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 will be allowed to ply. Serving of customers inside the restaurant has been strictly prohibited, Thejawelie said.He said the shops selling fish, chickens and fowls, pork, beef, mutton etc. will not be allowed to open in the main markets. Nagaland: Odd-even system for vehicles in Kohima

3 prisoners have escaped from the Karinganj jail in Assam. The names of the escapes are Wahid Ali, Mantak Ahmed and Faijur Rahman. The incident has created overall concerns in the security of the jail. The trio was brought into the prison on June 10th and June 13th. As such, they were kept in quarantine. In the midnight, they broke the window and climbed the big jail wall to escape. The 2 escapees Wahid Alid and Mantak Ahmed belong to Assam Karimganj's Bazariksra and Hafaniyat respectively. Both are a car thief. The other Fajujur's case is from Badarpur and he belongs to Faikrabasti Hojai. This is not the first time inmates have escaped from the Assam Karaimganj jail and within 2-3 another incident like this ha happened. Sikkim police tie-up with Army to enhance coordination amid Indo-China stand-off

The NSCN (Khaplang) based in Mynamar seemed to have split into yet another two groups with a faction of the group holding its plenary meeting on Tuesday and then removing incumbent chairman Yung Aung as its chief. Aung is the nephew of the group’s founder SS Khaplang.At the meeting, chaired by pro-tem speaker of the group self-styled “lt. gen.” Niki Sumi, the entire civil and military wings unanimously resolved to appoint self-styled “lt. gen.” (rtd) Nyemlang Konyak Naga as the chairman and Starson Iamkang Naga as general secretary/ato kilonser (prime minister) of the NSCN/GPRN, the incharge of the ministry of information and publicity of the outfit, Nikato Pilot Sumi, said in a release on Wednesday.The release said these appointments were “mandated” and “necessitated” as former president Yung Aung has acted in direct contravention of the provisions of the Yehzabo (constitution) of the NSCN/GPRN.It said Aung, without any consultation or meetings with concerned officials of the NSCN/GPRN, clandestinely established relationship and connived with the NSCN (Isak-Muivah) in trying to sabotage and undermine the “Naga sovereign rights”. It alleged that the NSCN (I-M) had categorically stated and signed the 2015 accord to be included under the ambit of Indian Constitution, which is a direct challenge to the mandate of the Naga people. It said the NSCN/GPRN is mandated by the Nagas for the very objective of defending and achieving the inherent sovereign political rights of the Nagas and thus the former president has lost all mandate of the Nagas.Aung, in violation of the very fundamental tenets of the “Yehzabo” and the conventions of NSCN/GPRN, acted alone without the knowledge or consulting any members of the NSCN/GPRN and tried to change the official seal of the GPRN by dispatching a newly self designed seal to be used officially, which was rejected outright by all the officials of the NSCN/GPRN, the release alleged.<a href="https://www.insidene.com/nagaland-nscn-k-appoints-nyemlang-kuntal-naga-as-chairman/" target="_blank" aria-label="undefined (opens in a new tab)" rel="noreferrer noopener">Also read: Nagaland: NSCN (K) appoints Nyemlang Kuntal Naga as Chairman</a>It said despite the “grave watertight charges” against Aung, the NSCN/GPRN patiently waited for nearly two years for him to come to his senses but he on his own volition deserted the NSCN/GPRN and unofficially defected to NSCN (I-M). “Since then he has been doing the bidding of NSCN (IM) under the directive of the Indian government to sabotage and suppress our sovereign political rights,” it said.The release said Aung, on all counts, has been found guilty of serious dereliction of duty and conniving with elements who are trying to derail “our sovereign political rights”.The release added that the NSCN/GPRN reiterated and placed its faith and confidence in the wisdom of the Naga people's mandate and in the leadership of Nyemlang Konyak Naga to lead the Nagas towards “our goal”.It said the NSCN/GPRN will follow in the footsteps and visions of its great leader late SS Khaplang in fulfilling the Nagas' aspirations for achieving the Naga inherent sovereign political rights and continue to extend support and solidarity to all nations “who are wrongfully oppressed in their struggle for freedom”.In 2018, the Myanmar-based NSCN (K) split into two factions, one led by its impeached chairman and Indian origin Khango Konyak and the other by Yung Aung. On 6 April 2015, a new faction by the name of NSCN (Reformation) was formed with Y. Thounaojam Brinda, Additional superintendent of police, who courted controversy for accusing Manipur chief minister of foiling an investigation against a former BJP functionary alleged to be involved in drug smuggling, and two others were detained by Imphal police for allegedly flouting the lockdown protocols in Sangaiprou area in Imphal West district, Manipur on July 27th, 2020 night.Brinda made the allegations against the CM in an affidavit to the court which had initiated contempt proceedings.The contempt charges were related to Brinda’s Facebook post, where she had allegedly questioned a special court’s decision to grant bail to the BJP functionary. Brinda is also accused of showing her middle finger to the judge – a charge she has denied in her affidavit.On July 29th 2020, Inspector General of Police in Imphal K Jayanta said that the police were not surveilling Brinda and that there was no intention to target her. Brinda also claimed to have been on a “drug trail” in a separate post.Imphal West district Superintendent of Police K Meghachandra, in a statement, said that a female occupant of the car carrying Brinda had identified herself as the additional superintendent of police. Gangster Vikas Dubey arrested for killing 8 policemen killed in encounter

In an operation, the Diphu police, Assam, seized a huge consignment of illegal liquor on July 11th, 2020. The police recovered 125 cartons of illegal liquor carried from Arunachal Pradesh.  The accused Mangilal Godown was caught red-handed by the police.Relating to the same incident an Alto AS-05K-1865 was found importing illegal Alcohol from Arunachal Pradesh. The driver Vijay Kr Yadav was apprehended red-handed at Khatkhati check Gate. On Questioning the accused told the police that 20 such vehicles including an Alto,Swift,Safari and Bolero Pick-up are used for importing the Alcohols from Golaghat.On further  Investigation he Disclosure some names who are involved in it. Arrested were identified as Betal Basumatary(19),Jarang Narzary(26),Manoj Basumatary(35),Bisinta Basumatary(33),Ranjit Basumatary(36),Birsen Basumatary(25),Ranbir Basumatary(35) and Ramesh Tirky(34) of No.2 Ultapani village.
