Pollution is one of the major threats to the 'Deepor Beel', which is the only Ramsar Site in the state of Assam.
The never-ending allegations against the local populace of dumping garbage and other waste materials into the 'Beel' and its surroundings have frustrated the locals of the region and they have appealed to picnickers to be more responsible and clean up after themselves.
The people of the area have been making efforts to save the beel with the commitment to save the ecological zone. They have further alleged that the concerned authorities have not been reacting to the issue as proactively as they should. The concerned locals of the place have also said that during the session of picnic, people from across the city visit the Deepor Beel and organize picnics which later makes the place dirty with plastics and leftover food materials.
