Rajya Sabha MP and Bodo People’s Front (BPF) leader Biswajit Daimary has made an appeal to the people of Assam to preserve the Deepor Beel and also asked the concerned authorities to take necessary actions to stop the 'Beel' from being polluted.
Speaking to Inside Northeast, Biswajit Daimary said, “Deepor Beel is very important for Assam, and especially for Guwahati. The Beel should be preserved for the animals, environment and also for ourselves. Even if one does not feel responsible for other organisms, I appeal to the people that one must preserve the 'Beel' for their own sake. Let’s forget about the others, but one must save the wetland to survive if we love ourselves.”
He added that we have ignored the necessity of the wetland and dumped garbage into it, thereby polluting the environment. Guwahati is the capital of the state and everyone visits the place. If we need to breathe some fresh air, the area around Deepor Beel is a particular space for it.”
