Assam's singing heartthrob Rakesh Riyaan has added his voice to an environmental cause as he has lent his support to the Inside Northeast campaign #LetsSaveDeeporBeel.

Riyaan has urged the people of the state to preserve the only Ramsar site in the state. "I want to request the people of Guwahati and the people of Assam to take sincere efforts to save our beautiful 'Deepor Beel'.

The crooner also said that the 'Beel' is of utmost importance as a rich variety of migratory birds species are found in the 'Beel' along with reptiles, insects, and amphibians.

Rakesh Riyaan also appealed the Government officials to take steps to save the wetland. "I strongly demand all the members and officials related to the wildlife department to take some necessary and serious efforts to held this 'Beel' even more beautiful and more attractive", he said. He also lauded the Inside Northeast campaign for this "beautiful and noble initiative".

The Deepor Beel, is located to the south-west of Guwahati city, in Kamrup district of Assam, India, It is a permanent freshwater lake, in a former channel of the Brahmaputra River, to the south of the main river. It is also called a wetland under the Ramsar Convention which has listed the lake in November 2002, as a Ramsar Site for undertaking conservation measures on the basis of its biological and environmental importance.
