Guwahati, June 16, 2019:

Veteran journalist Pranay Bordoloi has appealed the people to preserve Assam's lone Ramsar site, the 'Deepor Beel'.

The veteran journalist has said that 'Deepor Beel' is important to maintain the scenic beauty of Guwahati city as it is one of the few truly natural

Pranay Bordoloi was also all-praises for the Inside Northeast awareness campaign #LetsSaveDeeporBeel and said that "this is a wonderful initiative by InsideNE to save the beel.." He said that even Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has appealed that the Beel be saved and hoped that the efforts of 'Inside Northeast' will reach the local administration's notice.

The PRAG News Managing Editor also lamented that a lot of illegal activities are going on in and around the 'Beel'. "Dr. Parimal Bhattacharya, Professor, GU conducted a survey 1990. It revealed more than 200 species of birds living in there. Now, it has dwindled to less than a hundred", he said.

"No initiative can be seen from government's side to develop it. Although it is called a Bird Sanctuary but no such features can be seen", Pranay Bordoloi slammed.
