Manipur CM inaugurates alternate housing complex at National Games Village

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated the Alternate Housing Complex at National Games Village, Langol today. 

The inauguration programme was organised by the Manipur Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD).

The Planning and Development Authority, Manipur is the implementing agency of the housing complex, which is constructed at the cost of around Rs. 58 crores. The project is funded by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO) and the State Government.

Speaking on the occasion, after inaugurating the housing complex, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh maintained that the State had witnessed positive changes in the field of development, despite various challenges and hurdles like COVID pandemic and others. This is just the beginning of development, he continued, stressing the need to overcome all the disturbances in the path of development.

Informing that the housing complex had been constructed at the cost of around Rs. 58 crores, he added that the construction work was completed in less than two years. He continued that many development works could be taken up with the cooperation and support from the public. He further informed that the Government had identified certain sites along foothills, where agriculture activities could not be taken up, adding that similar projects would be taken up at the identified sites.

The Chief Minister further spoke on the effect of environmental degradation due to large-scale deforestation and urged the public not to encroach the reserved forest areas.

N. Biren also informed that the Government has plans to construct another view tower at Langol Hills, apart from the two view towers which had already been constructed. He also mentioned the plan to connect the view towers with the Recreation Centre adjoining the Lamphelpat Waterbody by cable car.

Delivering his welcome speech, Commissioner, MAHUD M. Joy Singh informed that the Alternative Housing Complex is being constructed at an area of 2.16 acre of land. 

The buildings are constructed using Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF), he said, adding that the LGSF technology has the benefit of reduction of dead weight (60%) compared to RCC buildings and is suitable for high seismic zones especially for places like Manipur falling under seismic zone-V.

He continued that the housing complex consists of 5 blocks, with a total of 180 dwelling units.

Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Thongam Biswajit, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Education Minister Th. Basantakumar Singh, MLAs Khongbantabam Ibomcha, Sanasam Premchandra, Thongam Shanti, Sheikh Noorul Hassan, Thangjam Arunkumar, Senior Government officials, representatives of HUDCO and Nipani Infra & Industries Pvt. Ltd (NIIPL) among others.

Later, the Chief Minister visited Lamphelpat and inspected the rejuvenation work of the Lamphelpat waterbody.
