A leader of insurgent group Zeliangrong United Front (Kamson faction) was apprehended during a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and the Manipur police on Saturday.
Acting on a tip off, the security personnel launched a search operation in Ramgaijang village and apprehended the rebel, Adum alias Andi, who is a resident of Senapati district, from the house of the village vice chairman, Pougangai Rongmei. The arrested rebel was forcibly staying in the house.
It is alleged that Adum was carrying out large-scale criminal and illegal activities in areas of Jiribam district of Manipur and Cachar district of Assam. He was serving as the secretary of human resource & welfare of ZUF (Kamson faction). Earlier, he was a member of Naga National Council (NNC) and joined the ZUF in 2013.
The security personnel seized two mobile phones and incriminating documents from his possession. He was later handed over to Jirighat police for further investigation.
