Illegal arms surrendered in Manipur after Governor’s appeal, major cache recovered

In response to an appeal by the Governor of Manipur and a similar appeal made by the Commandant of the 6th India Reserve Battalion (IRB), a significant cache of illegally possessed arms, ammunition, and explosive materials was voluntarily surrendered today.

The surrendered items were handed over to Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh, Commandant of the 6th IRB, and his team as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms possession and enhance security in the region. The recovered items include:

Weapons & Explosives:

1 Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) with magazine (Reg. No. Z-3439)
1 Lethod Bomb
1 Chinese Hand Grenade (without detonator)

Ammunition:
2 magazines for .303 Light Machine Gun (LMG)
22 rounds of .303 live ammunition
10 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm live ammunition
17 rounds of 9mm live ammunition
5 rounds of 5.52mm live ammunition
Various other live rounds and empty cases of different calibers

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order while encouraging individuals in possession of illegal weapons to surrender them voluntarily. The surrender is seen as a positive step toward restoring peace and stability in the region.

Security forces are expected to continue their efforts in persuading citizens to hand over illegal arms, with further measures likely to be taken to strengthen law enforcement across Manipur.
