Man shot dead in suspected militant ambush along NH-202 in Manipur

A man was shot dead in a suspected militant ambush along National Highway-202 in Manipur on (April 18) Saturday afternoon amid continuing tensions in the region.

According to sources, the victim, a member of the Tangkhul community, was travelling from Imphal to Ukhrul when unidentified armed assailants opened fire near T.M. Kasom village along the highway. 

The attack is suspected to have been carried out by Kuki militants, though there has been no official confirmation so far.

In the incident, the man died on the spot, while at least three vehicles were also damaged due to the firing.

Sources further said that the deceased was a resident of Tashar village in Ukhrul district and was returning home at the time of the attack.

Authorities are yet to officially confirm the identity of the victim. No official statement has been issued so far, and further details are awaited.

Security forces are expected to launch a search operation in the area as part of efforts to track down those responsible for the attack.
