Manipur CM undertakes first road visit to Jiribam since ethnic unrest, pushes peace outreach
In a significant move aimed at restoring normalcy after months of ethnic unrest, Manipur Chief Minister Yumkham Khemchand Singh on April 4 began a three-day visit to Jiribam district, marking his first road journey to the region since violence erupted between communities.
The visit is being viewed as a key outreach initiative to rebuild trust and foster dialogue between the Meitei and Kuki-Hmar communities, which have remained at odds during the prolonged conflict. The Chief Minister is accompanied by eight MLAs, including legislators from the Meitei community, along with state BJP president A Sarda Devi.
According to officials, Singh is scheduled to reach Jiribam around 1 pm, where he will hold interactions with community leaders, civil society organisations, and local residents to assess the ground situation and encourage reconciliation efforts.

The CM’s visit follows recent directions from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who had urged the state government to intensify peacebuilding measures and address the prevailing trust deficit in Manipur.
During his stay, Singh is expected to inspect key installations such as the Leingangpokpi police outpost and Jiribam District Hospital, reviewing both security arrangements and delivery of essential public services.
Officials described the visit as a crucial step towards restoring stability in the violence-hit state, with a focus on long-term peace and confidence-building among affected communities.
