Manipur Congress leader approaches NHRC over human rights concerns in state

Manipur Congress Legislature Party leader K Meghachandra Singh on May 27 said a delegation met officials of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in New Delhi and submitted a complaint highlighting the current situation in Manipur, alleging serious human rights concerns and civilian suffering in the state.

Speaking after visiting the NHRC office, Meghachandra Singh said the delegation met the NHRC Chairman and raised concerns over what he described as worsening conditions in Manipur.

“We are here at the National Human Rights Commission regarding the issues in Manipur. We met the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission and filed a complaint concerning the current situation in Manipur,” Singh said.

He alleged that civilians in Manipur continue to face hardships and claimed that “gross human rights violations” are taking place.

Referring to recent developments, the Congress leader alleged that since May 13, 2026, innocent civilians from both the Naga and Kuki communities have been abducted over the past few weeks.

Manipur has witnessed prolonged ethnic tensions and unrest since violence broke out in the state in 2023, leading to continuing concerns over security and humanitarian conditions.
