President of the Indigenous People's Forum Manipur (IPFM), Ashang Kasar, has strongly condemned the violent attack on Liangmai Naga village leaders at Konsaram village, allegedly carried out by armed groups.
The assault has left two prominent figures—Village Chief Aimson Abonmai (65) and Village Chairman D. Adam (40)—seriously injured, along with several others.
Speaking to the media after visiting the injured at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, Kasar stated, “Attacking the leaders of the Liangmai Naga tribe is tantamount to targeting the entire Naga community. In our tradition, village chiefs and chairmen are accorded the highest respect. Assaulting them is a direct violation of Naga customary law and an attack on the dignity of indigenous people.”
Kasar expressed deep concern over the assault, calling it unexpected and inhumane, especially as the victims are elderly individuals entrusted with upholding the community's values. He emphasized that while disputes may arise, they must be resolved through lawful means and dialogue, not through violence.

“If there is any conflict, it is the duty of the authorities to resolve it legally or through peaceful discussion. But directly attacking community leaders is both condemnable and unacceptable,” he added.
Meanwhile, members of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) also visited Konsakhul village.
Eight others injured in the attack are currently being treated at Khurkhul PHC.
The incident has sparked outrage among civil society organizations and indigenous groups, who are calling for justice, immediate investigation, and de-escalation of tensions in the conflict-affected areas.
