Tensions escalated once again in Manipur as fresh firing broke out near Koutruk in Kangchup region under Imphal West district on September 1.
According to sources, suspected Kuki militants launched an attack at around 2.35 pm with firing started from Nakhujang village, Kangpokpi towards Kadangband part -1, Imphal West. Village volunteers from Kadangband also retaliated and with gun firing underway in Imphal West district.
The exchange of gunfire is reported to be ongoing with one civilian reported killed and another injured. Meanwhile, 2 police personnel have been injured in retaliatory firing. The injured personnel were rushed to Raj Medicity in Imphal for treatment.
According to latest reports, the victims, identified as Surbala Ngangbam (31) and her 12 year child identified as Ng. Rojiya, both received bullet injuries and were admitted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Lamphel for further treatment. Sources state that the woman, Surbala Ngangbam succumbed to the bullet injuries.
