Manipur: Keishampat protest over missing youth; mother pleads for his return

A sit-in protest was held at Keishampat, condemning the disappearance of Luwangthem Mukesh, a 20-year-old from Keishampat Leimajam Leikai.

Following the protest, demonstrators marched to the Chief Secretary’s office to submit a memorandum, urging authorities to take swift action to locate the missing youth.

Women activist Thokchom Sujata emphasized the need for immediate intervention, urging the government to deploy security forces for the search, given that Manipur is under President’s Rule and has a large security presence.

Mukesh’s mother made an emotional plea, urging authorities to find her son with folded hands.

“My son is the only hope of my life. We are the only two family members. There is no point in living if he doesn’t come back. Please, concerned authorities, help me find him,” she pleaded.

She recounted that Mukesh left home on March 16 at around 2 PM, assuring her he wouldn’t go far. When she called him at 3:30 PM, his phone was busy, but by 6:30 PM, it was switched off.

CCTV footage was last placed in Mukesh in Chinikhul, Bishnupur district, crossing Nambol PS at 3:16 PM and Bishnupur Bazaar at 3:40 PM.

Following the missing complaint filed at Imphal Police Station on March 16, 2025, authorities have initiated an inquiry. The Police Department and Security Forces are conducting search operations in all suspected areas to trace Mukesh’s whereabouts.
