Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba today lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the introduction of GST 2.0, calling it a landmark step towards strengthening India’s economy.
Addressing the media at the BJP Manipur Pradesh Office, Sanajaoba said the reform, which simplifies the Goods and Services Tax from a four-tier structure to a two-tier system, would greatly benefit India’s 140 crore citizens.
“Earlier, GST was divided into four slabs—5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. Now, with the implementation of GST 2.0, there will be only two slabs—5% and 18%. This has led to a reduction in prices of nearly 375 items, including automobiles, electronics and pharmaceuticals,” Sanajaoba noted.

The MP described the reform as a “festival gift” to the people, echoing the words of the Prime Minister. He stressed that the move underscores the BJP-led government’s commitment to being people-centric and pro-development.
Sanajaoba further added that GST 2.0 would promote Indian-made products and boost the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. He said the reform aligns with the Prime Minister’s ambition of transforming India into a developed nation (Vikshit Bharat) by 2047.
