Manipur unrest: Artists from various groups stage protest, resolve to submit memorandum

The artist fraternity of various art form staged a sit-in protest on June 10 at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen demanding the restoration of peace and harmony at the earliest.

The sit-in protest was organised by Coordinating Committee on Cultural Fraternity. It was attended by many eminent personalities of art and culture from the state of Manipur. 

As part of the agitation, the protests stood in silence for one minute paying tribute to the departed souls who lost their lives in the unrest. This was followed by raising of slogans such as "Long Live Manipur", "No separate administration in Manipuri" and "Abrogate Suspension of Operation"

Addressing media an eminent theatre personality who was also a former chairman of National School of Drama and Sangeet Natak Akademi recipient, Ratan Thiyam strongly condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not uttering single word in connection to the present turmoil in Manipur. "Not responding to the present unrest even after 36 days of crisis by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is highly condemnable. I feel that central government is treating us as third class citizen," he lamented.

The committee resolved to submit memorandum to president of India for early restoration of peace and tranquility in Manipur.
