Violence had already broken out when the Aggarwal couple from Mumbai landed in Imphal, Manipur on May 4.
The tourists from Mumbai who were visiting the state of Manipur, least expected that they would be facing a horrifying situation, witnessing rows of burning cars, trucks and angry mobs pass by their hotel where they were stranded.
Stuck in the hotel, the Mumbai tourists were waiting for a safe evacuation, putting their sightseeing plans at halt, as the state of Manipur turned into a war zone with clashes ensuing between the Meiteis and Kukis.
“We reached here on May 4th evening but were startled after learning about the volatile situation here due to ethnic clashes between two communities. We were planning to visit Loktak Lake, and various tourist attraction places. Manipur has a lot of tourist potential with many beautiful places to visit. Unfortunately, we have to drop our plans now owing to the present tense situation. The scenes were horrific. We saw burning cars, angry mob holding sticks in their hands and many lying unconscious on the road. We just pray for a safe evacuation now”, said Neeraj Aggarwal while speaking to India TodayNE.
Neeraj Aggarwal was here in Imphal with his wife, but were confined to their hotel rooms as Manipur continued to burn, security personnel patrolling day and night to check on law and order situation.
