Manipur's Kangpokpi Police lead town-wide cleanliness drive on Gandhi Jayanti
Marking the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, observed nationwide as National Cleanliness Day, the Kangpokpi Police set an inspiring example of civic responsibility by conducting a mass cleanliness drive in the town today.
Led by Officer-in-Charge Inspector H. Kipgen, officers and men of the Kangpokpi Police Station began the drive at 7:00 am, continuing till 8:30 am. The initiative covered the stretch from the Police Station premises up to the bustling I.T. Road Bazar Junction, one of the town’s busiest public areas.
Armed with brooms and waste bags, the personnel swept the streets, collected garbage and plastics, and cleared unattended waste along roadsides and market areas. The campaign not only removed heaps of litter but also restored orderliness to public spaces, resonating with Gandhiji’s timeless message of hygiene, discipline, and community service.
Inspector Kipgen emphasised that observing Gandhi Jayanti goes beyond remembrance. “Cleanliness is not only about the environment we live in, but it also reflects our sense of discipline, responsibility, and respect for society. As police personnel, we are custodians of law and order, but we also share the duty to maintain a clean and healthy town for all,” he said.

Residents and shopkeepers at I.T. Road Bazar appreciated the initiative, with several locals voluntarily joining the police team, reinforcing the spirit of cooperation and community participation.
The Kangpokpi Police have regularly taken proactive roles in community-focused activities beyond routine policing. Today’s cleanliness drive further highlighted their commitment to combining public service with civic responsibility, especially on a day dedicated to Gandhi’s vision of a clean and self-reliant India.
The drive concluded with the officers pledging to continue such initiatives in the future, making Kangpokpi a cleaner, greener, and healthier town not only symbolically on Gandhi Jayanti but as part of sustained efforts.
