Presidency College Motbung, the lone government college in Kangpokpi district, marked its 52nd Foundation Day today with heartfelt celebrations under the theme “Celebrating Legacy, Embracing Future.”
Established in 1973, the institution has stood as a pillar of higher education, shaping countless lives over the decades.
The college campus buzzed with pride and enthusiasm as faculty, students, alumni, and community members gathered to honor over five decades of academic excellence and community contribution.
The day’s celebration was held in two parts—a formal session in the morning and a cultural program in the afternoon. The event commenced with a solemn pledge led by Principal Dr. S. Kipgen, reaffirming the college's dedication to academic integrity and holistic growth.
In his keynote address, Dr. Kipgen paid homage to the institution’s founding members, especially the founding principal, late Henkholen Sitlhou, whose visionary leadership helped lay the groundwork for the college’s enduring legacy. Speakers traced the institution’s transformative journey and its impact on society.

An alumni representative proudly recalled the college’s contribution in shaping successful individuals, including Member of Parliament Raju Bista. A moment of silence was observed in honor of the pioneers who laid the foundation for the college’s growth.
The afternoon was a lively celebration of culture and talent, as students and faculty presented songs, dances, and traditional performances, highlighting the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Kipgen expressed deep gratitude to the college community. He noted that the golden jubilee in 2023 could not be celebrated due to unrest in the state, but assured that preparations for a grand diamond jubilee celebration are already underway.
“Presidency College is steadily emerging as a center of excellence,” Dr. Kipgen said. “With our collective vision and commitment, we aim to make this one of the finest colleges in the country.”
The event was graced by former principals, founding members, retired and serving faculty, staff, and students—each contributing to a memorable celebration that honored the past and embraced the promise of the future.
With renewed commitment and a clear vision, Presidency College Motbung continues its mission of empowering future generations and shaping leaders for tomorrow.
