Operation honeymoon: Meghalaya minister calls it cold-blooded and pre-planned

Reacting to the chilling murder of Raja Raghuvanshi in Sohra, Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Alexander Laloo Hek on Thursday termed the crime as "pre-planned and organised," allegedly initiated by Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi.

Speaking to the media, Hek said: “I saw the news that Meghalaya Police recovered a mangalsutra and a ring from Sonam's suitcase left at the homestay. I believe this is a very vital clue. The government and people of Meghalaya want strict legal punishment for the accused.”

He commended the Meghalaya Police for their swift and effective investigation, which led to the arrest of Sonam, her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha, and three hired killers.

“I congratulate the police for doing an important job. I also express my condolences to Raja Raghuvanshi’s family, who were understandably furious after learning their son was murdered here. Initially, they blamed the people and police of Meghalaya—but we are relieved that they have now apologised,” Hek added.

The murder case, which shocked the state and the nation, saw a breakthrough when Sonam resurfaced in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur and surrendered. Police say she orchestrated the killing during their honeymoon with help from her boyfriend and contract killers.
