Mizoram: Community-led efforts restore access to Aizawl civil hospital road following landslides

In a collaborative effort, the Public Works Department (PWD) of Aizawl North Sub Division, in conjunction with local organizations, undertook significant renovation work on the Aizawl Civil Hospital road on Saturday, August 24.

The initiative aimed to restore access and safety after recent landslides caused substantial road blockages in the Chanmari West and Edenthar localities.

The road clearance operation saw active participation from the PWD, the local council, and the Young Mizo Association (YMA) branches of Chanmari West and Edenthar.

Together, they successfully cleared the debris and mud that had obstructed the road, which had become dangerously slippery, posing a risk to two-wheeler riders. The teams ensured that the road was not only cleared of the blockage but also thoroughly washed to remove any residual mud, preventing further hazards.

Additionally, the drainage systems in the area, which had become clogged and led to waterlogging, were meticulously cleaned out to ensure the smooth flow of water and prevent future flooding. This comprehensive road clearing and drainage maintenance operation was a critical response to the landslides, restoring safe passage for the community in the affected areas.
