Mizoram: First-time MLA Lalfamkima elected deputy speaker unopposed

A significant political event unfolded in the Mizoram Legislative Assembly as Lalfamkima, a first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Kolasib constituency near the Assam border, was elected unopposed to the position of Deputy Speaker.

This development marks a notable moment in Lalfamkima's political career, highlighting the trust and confidence placed in him by his peers.

Born on December 5, 1966, Lalfamkima was elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker of the Ninth Mizoram Assembly.

Lalfamkima's election to this esteemed role within the assembly is particularly noteworthy as he represents the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and has embarked on his legislative journey alongside the newly appointed Speaker, Lalbiakzama.

The election took place during the first session of the 9th Mizoram legislative assembly, which was subsequently adjourned sine die by Speaker Lalbiakzama.

The peaceful and unanimous selection of Lalfamkima as Deputy Speaker underscores the collaborative spirit of the assembly and sets a precedent for the conduct of its members. It also reflects the assembly's commitment to recognizing and empowering new leaders who can contribute fresh perspectives to the governance of Mizoram.

However, the election of Lalfamkima stands out as a testament to the democratic process within the state's legislative framework, where even first-time legislators can rise to positions of responsibility and influence.
