Nagaland to 'unlock' from July 1; check new regulations here

KOHIMA: Instead of doing away with the curbs meant to contain the COVID-19 entirely, the Nagaland state government has chosen to lift the curbs gradually as a precautionary measure.

A High Powered Committee  (HPC) meeting held today was chaired by chief minister Neiphiu Rio and attended by members of HPC, and senior officers of Nagaland COVID-19 war room.

During the crucial meeting, the Department of Health & Family Welfare made a COVID-19 data-based situational level presentation and recommended some public health measures.

Meanwhile, the Unlock I regulations will be issued soon.

Putting out a tweet, HPC chairman Mmhonlumo Kikonsaid informed that the HPC has decided to go for “Unlock 1” after assessing the situation in the state from July 1-10.

He also informed that 50% attendance in government offices shall begin. Meanwhile, curfew hours shall be lessened and will be observed from 7 pm-4 am.  During this period, shops shall be opened on a rotational basis.

In the meeting, officials stated that closed spaces and crowded spaces must be the area of focus and people in 'high risk' settings must be checked periodically.

The importance of the biological vaccine to curb the spread of the virus as well as 'social vaccine' such as wearing masks and social distancing was emphasized.

COVID-19 cases have been declining in Nagaland since the imposition of total lockdown. While the cases peaked from May 15-21 (2,062), they are now hovering around the 600-mark on a weekly basis.

Nagaland’s COVID-19 tally rose to 24,961 on Sunday as 111 more people tested positive for the infection, a health bulletin said. As many as 73 more people were cured of the disease during the day. With no COVID-19 fatalities reported on Sunday, the death toll in the Northeastern state remained at 487, the bulletin said.
