The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday gathered the support from the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party amid possibilities that the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 will be brought as a supplementary bill to the Rajya Sabha session on February 12 before the Rajya Sabha is adjourned sine die.
The supporting votes for the Citizenship Bill are expected to be 141, whereas the vote count against the Bill is 103 which will include INC 50 votes, AITC 13 votes, JD-U 6 votes, TDP 6 votes, RJD 5 votes, CPI-M 5 votes, DMK 4 votes, CPI-M 2 votes, J&K PDP 2 votes, JD(S) 1 vote, KRL.CON 1 vote, INLD 1 vote, IUML 1 vote, SS 3 votes, AAP 3 votes.
It may be mentioned that the confirmation was made by BJP General Secretary Ram Madhab on Monday while addressing the media.
Despite the continuous effort of the North Eastern ministers, many civil organizations and student bodies, the government remains adamant over the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 in the Parliament.
