Guwahati, March 1, 2019:

A video is quickly going viral on Twitter which shows parents of India’s brave son IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman boarding a plane and they prepare to receive the captured pilot at the Wagah border. The parents of the pilot, who was captured by the Pakistan Army, took a flight to Delhi from their native city Chennai. From Delhi, they boarded a flight to Amritsar and will be at the border when their valiant son is returned to India.

In the short 35 seconds clip, co-passengers in the flight stand up and applaud as Abhinandan Varthaman’s parents enter the frame. First, his mother, with the glow of pride visible on her face, makes her way through the cheering lot. Next, his beaming father passes through, relief and pride palpably on his face in equal measure. The short video tells a long story and depicts the sacrifices that the parents of brave jawans have to make as they watch their sons and daughters go off to fight wars with their futurer shrouded in uncertainty.

Meanwhile, the pilot, who was captured in Pakistan after his MiG 21 Bison fighter jet crashed on the wrong side of the LoC, will be released by Pakistan today as a “gesture of peace”. As per reports, the Pakistani authorities will bring him from Rawalpindi to Lahore and hand him over first to the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) under rules of the Geneva Convention. Abhinandan is expected to be brought to the Attari Joint Check Post between 12 noon and 2 pm.
