The nationwide tally of confirmed COVID-19 cases crossed 90,000 on Sunday with more people testing positive for the deadly virus infection in India, even as indications emerged about greater relaxations in the fourth phase of the lockdown beginning Monday to contain economic costs of the pandemic.
With the massive spike in the confirmed cases, India has surpassed China’s official tally of 82,933 with as many as 4,987 new cases registered in the last 24 hours.

The situation in Maharashtra is worsening with 30,706 cases reported so far followed by Gujarat with 10,988 cases and Tamil Nadu with 10,585 cases in India. Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar and Karnataka crossed 1,000-mark while Assam registered 4 new cases in the last 24 hours taking total to 95; of which 50 are active cases while 41 have been cured/ discharged and two died in the state so far.
A total of 34,109 people have been cured/ discharged while 2,872 people died due to the virus across the nation.

India is currently under the third phase of the nationwide lockdown with considerable relaxation in the Green Zone areas. The complete nationwide complete lockdown was enforced exempting the essential services by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 25 initially for 21 days which was later extended to prevent the spread of the virus.

With the start of the third phase of the lockdown, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a massive economic package of Rs 20 lakh crore for the welfare of the migrants and poor while PM-CARES Fund Trust allocated Rs 3100 crore for ventilators in the country.
Globally, the novel coronavirus has infected 47,21,846 people and claimed 3,13,260 lives so far. United States of America registered 15,07,773 cases followed by Spain (2,76,505) and Russia (2,72,043).
