Bharat Basnett, president of Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committe has resigned from congress. Basnett was associated with the Congress party for last three decades and was president of Sikkim congress for last seven years. Basnett was also two time Lok Sabha candidate from congress party and also contested Assembly polls.  

Basnett said he is not happy with the party's decision. Basnett says party aoppinted In-charge for Sikkim without consulting him and this is not the first time that they had taken a decision without  consulting  Sikkim, everytime they do this, our(Sikkim) opinion does not matter so I have finally decided to quit the party.

Basnett added, “I am happy with my decision. National party don’t understand Sikkim's aspirations. Till date I have responsibly handled the party and kept it alive but they don’t understand our issues.”

It may be mentioned here that Sujit Singh Nagar was appointed as Incharge for Sikkim on Saturday  without consulting Basnett. Basnett had  appealed party high command atleast they should consult Sikkim before taking any decisions.
