A building below the Mangan Police station has been collapsed due to heavy downpour in Mangan, Sikkim. The building was already vacated by the authority, all the residents were also evacuated looking at the potential threat of collapse. SDPO Mangan, SHO Mangan PS, Disaster management team, rescue team and all other concerned officer were at the spot and evacuated the people and necessary items. No human casualties reported.

Meanwhile, a total of 42 people have died in the ravaging deluge that has continued wreaking havoc across Assam. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, 3,575 villages across 29 districts in the state are reeling under floodwater.

A total of 26,33,976 people and 1,60,269.04 hectares cropland have been adversely affected so far in the flood.

Several rivers including the mighty Brahmaputra in different parts of Assam are flowing above danger level, causing floods and consequently leaving thousands of families homeless.

The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neematighat in Jorhat and Dhubri. Jia Dharali at NT Road Crossing and Kopili at Nagaon and Dhansiri at Numaligarh.

Justice A P Subba was sworn in as the Chairperson, Lokayukta of Sikkim at a function held at New Raj Bhawan, Gangtok today. He is the first Sikkimese Judge to be appointed as the Lokayukta Chairperson.

He was administered oath by the Governor of Sikkim,  Ganga Prasad.

It may be mentioned here that  Justice A.P. Subba  is also the first Sikkimese to be appointed as the Judge of High Court of Sikkim. Prior to his appointment as the Chairperson, Lokayukta of Sikkim, he was holding the post of Chairman, Law Commission, Sikkim.
