Betel leaves, supari everywhere—we must fix it: Sikkim CM during Namchi hospital visit
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on September 26 toured the new 500-bedded Namchi District Hospital, commissioning its upgraded facilities and inspecting overall infrastructure and services.
During the visit, he candidly highlighted persistent challenges stemming from public behaviour and management inefficiencies, pointing to littered bottles, chewing gum, and general untidiness as recurring issues.
CM Tamang stressed that such negligence not only hampers hospital operations but also places an extra burden on staff. He noted gaps in facilities, citing cases where diagnostic tests had to be sent to Bangalore, and urged both authorities and citizens to cooperate for better hospital management.
As part of the ongoing Sewa Pakhwada, the Chief Minister inaugurated the hospital’s new MRI and CT scan units, emphasising that advanced diagnostic facilities are key to improving patient care. Interacting with the medical staff, he lauded their dedication and urged collective effort to maintain hygiene, discipline, and smooth functioning across public healthcare institutions in the state.
